Durham Police are experiencing problems receiving calls on their non-emergency 101 system.

The force has posted on Facebook: "We are currently experiencing some difficulty receiving calls through our 101 system.

"Please bear with us - we are working as quick as we can to resolve this issue.

"Our 999 system is unaffected and continues to work as normal.

"At this time, if you call 101 or 999, you will be connected but may hear rings tones followed by silence. Please do not disconnect, your call will be answered."

The post adds: "If you need to call us for a non-urgent matter, please consider visiting our website www.durham.police.uk first or if possible, call at a later time.

"Thank you for your patience.

"We will let you know as soon as the issue is resolved."
