Armed police responded to an emergency incident near a Teesside primary school on Thursday evening.

Officers from Cleveland Police were spotted by neighbours at Blackfriars, near Yarm primary School, at around 6pm last night.

The street was cordoned off by police while they responded to an incident at a property in the residential estate. Residents reported seeing armed officers enter a property with riot shields. 

Cleveland Police have been contacted for comment.

Neighbours are believed to have been told to stay inside their homes while officers responded to the incident.

Crews from the North East Ambulance Service also rushed to the scene, while a helicopter from the Great North Air Ambulance was seen landing in a field near the primary school.
