The opening date of a new restaurant in Durham city has been revealed after images of how work is progressing on the prospective venue were released.
Earlier this year, it was announced that Brazilian steakhouse Rio would be opening in Durham’s Walkergate after the owners behind the venture confirmed that it would be creating an “exciting opportunity” in the heart of the city centre.
In a post at the time, Rio Durham said: “We're proud to announce our next restaurant will be opening this July in Walkergate. We'll be bringing the real taste and experience of Brazil to Durham. Make sure you follow us to follow our journey.”

The business, which already has restaurants in Middlesbrough and two places in Newcastle, will offer customers a range of steaks, as well as cocktails and desserts, but has now revealed exactly when people can enjoy the drinks and food from.
Confirming the opening date on social media, Walkergate’s Facebook page said that Rio Steakhouse would be opening next Friday (July 29), alongside some images of a nearly complete restaurant – and offering people a sneak peek into how everything is coming along.

The brief post read: “Not much longer to wait. Rio Durham is set to OPEN on Friday 29th July.”
After its doors open, it will join big names Slug and Lettuce, Players, Nandos and Ask Italian that already have places in Walkergate.
Now that the restaurant is opening, those that visit will be hoping to spot several Newcastle United footballers, who frequently visit the Newcastle branches of Rio.
In 2022, fan favourite Joelington and his Brazilian teammate Bruno Guimarães have been snapped enjoying a meal there.
