A major County Durham A-road was partially closed after a car and a cyclist collided in a serious crash on Thursday (July 21).

Emergency services were called to the A690 towards Brancepeth, near the junction of Whitworth Lane, at around 4.15pm after reports of a severe collision.

The road was blocked in both directions for several hours to allow the police and ambulance to work and has since partially opened to motorists.

A section of the A690 remained closed until around 6.45pm.
