After the North East yesterday experienced scorching temperatures under a record-breaking heatwave, we’ve had a look to see if we’re in for more hot weather.
The North East and much of the UK is reeling after a record-breaking heatwave that saw many areas in the region reach temperatures into the late 30s.

An amber warning for extreme heat permeated the day and while many took the opportunity to relish the sunshine, many opted to stay in the shade.
Crowds gathered at popular beauty spots and people could be seen taking to their local town centre, despite warnings to stay out of the sun as much as possible.
Elsewhere in the UK, temperatures reached highs of 40c, breaking records and putting many vulnerable people in danger.
Could there be another heatwave this week?
According to the Met Office, the chances of another heatwave this week are very slim.
Today temperatures have returned almost back to normal for the time period letting people relax and enjoy the “pleasantly warm” weather.
The weather forecaster has predicted that this is set to last throughout the week with most days seeing maximum temperatures of 25c.

Nights, thankfully, will also be cooler, starting off tonight with a minimum temperature of 14c.
In Darlington, temperatures aren’t set to get any higher than 22c this week, such as Saturday and Sunday where peak temperatures could reach 22c.
Durham is seeing similar temperatures with highs of 23c predicted on Sunday, however, they won’t get any higher than this.
In Newton Aycliffe, which was named the hottest place in the North East yesterday, temperatures are also set to stay moderate with highs of 23c predicted at the most, welcome news to many in the town.
Could there be another heatwave next week?
Another heatwave in the North East and North Yorkshire next week is unlikely.

The full long-range weather forecaster between Monday July 25 and Wednesday August 3 reads: “Outbreaks of rain across the north and west moving southeastwards across the UK on Monday, becoming lighter through the day, with the far southeast probably staying dry.
“The rest of the week sees sunny spells and further showers, which are expected to be most frequent in the north and west at first. Light or moderate winds, but fresh or strong in the northwest.
“Temperatures generally close to average but cooler in the north and very warm, perhaps hot, in the southeast.
“For the later part of the period, more settled conditions are likely to return for many, though a few showers are still possible.

“Temperatures likely above average, especially in the southeast where it may be very warm at times.”
