A repeat offender has been jailed after breaching a suspended sentence order when he crashed a stolen car into a lamppost.
Ryan Dowson, 28, was ordered to serve 22 weeks behind bars after he was arrested on May 12 for aggravated vehicle taking and damage on Inverness Road in Hartlepool.
Appearing at Peterlee Magistrates’ Court on Monday, Dowson admitted the offence as well as pleading guilty to driving while disqualified, without insurance and criminal damage to a fridge.
The court heard he unlawfully took a car and crashed it shortly after.
Dowson’s guilty pleas, which were changed from initial not-guilty pleas, meant he activated a suspended sentence imposed on April 23 after a drink-driving offence.
The 28-year-old, of Dunbar Road, Hartlepool, was ordered to pay £1,148 in costs and received a five-year driving ban.
