One business owner had a novel way of keeping his staff cool on the hottest day of the year – by turning a skip into a swimming pool.
Workers at Scott Bros cooled off in the skip – with one employee comparing it to being poolside in Benidorm.
The makeshift swimming pool was a welcome relief as temperatures soared to 38 degrees on Teesside on Tuesday.

Director Peter Scott said: “It certainly beats a hot tub in this kind of weather and for once we don’t mind staff ‘skip-ing’ work a while to cool down. We might even start a new trend among cold water swimmers!”
The company converted one of its skips by lining it with plastic sheeting and topping it up with cold water.

Neil Crawford, a machine operator at the Stockton skip hire and recycling firm, added: “We’ve been happy to get on with our jobs despite the heat, but this is a proper treat. It’s almost as good as being by the pool in Benidorm!”
