Highways teams are working around the clock to complete repairs to a culvert under a major road in the Yorkshire Dales after encountering unforeseen delays.
Work is under way to strengthen the culvert under the A684 Burtersett Road into Hawes after an inspection found it to be in a poor condition.

The first phase is almost complete, however, early excavation revealed that the culvert is in worse condition than anticipated.
Work is now expected to take approximately two more weeks, lasting until Friday, August 5.
Executive member for highways and transportation for North Yorkshire County Council, Cllr Keane Duncan, said: “Our teams are doing all they can to complete the work as quickly as possible, however, we have encountered several issues that make this scheme more complicated than we first thought.
“Due to the fragility of the culvert, specialist equipment has been brought in order to delicately remove overlying fill material.
"We will continue to keep the public updated as work progresses.”
County Councillor Yvonne Peacock, who represents the Upper Dales division, said: “I’d like to reassure the public that our contractors are working around the clock to complete the work as quickly as possible in order to minimise further disruption to the area and local residents.

“We appreciate that this is going to cause more inconvenience as we enter the school summer holiday period, but we ask for your patience while the essential work is ongoing.”
The work is being carried out in two phases with alternative lane closures using three-way traffic lights.
On-site personnel are managing vehicle access to properties and businesses within the closure but there may be times when access is not possible.
Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout.
