Two schools in Middlesbrough have revealed the reasons behind one-day closures this week.

The Priory Woods School and Arts College in Ormesby will be shut tomorrow (Tuesday, July 19) as all buses to the school have been cancelled due to the extreme heat.

And Beverley School in Middlesbrough will be closed tomorrow (Tuesday, July 19) as an inspection today revealed that the building 'isn't safe' for pupils to learn in and for staff to work in.

A statement from Beverley School said: "Following a walk round school at 11am the school building isn’t safe to learn and work in, we however will remain open today (Monday, July 18).

"As it is predicted to be hotter tomorrow we have decided to close the school."

Parents and carers were told that they could collect their child from Beverley School at any time today.

It will re-open on Wednesday (July 20).

The Priory Woods School and Arts College said in a statment: "Due to the extreme temperatures forecast for tomorrow, transport have decided to cancel all buses.

"Due to this and our own concerns about the temperature possibly reaching 37 degrees tomorrow afternoon school will be closed to all pupils for tomorrow only."
