Everyone across the North East and North Yorkshire today will be feeling the heat today as we find ourselves plunged into a record-breaking heatwave – but what is the hottest place in the North East?
Temperatures are nearing their peak today as the sun reaches its zenith and brings with it scorching 30-degree heat and higher.
An amber warning for extreme heat is also currently in place for much of the region, warning of adverse health effects and some delays to road, rail and air travel as a result.

Things aren’t going to get much better either, as today is just the beginning, with even hotter and extreme temperatures predicted tomorrow (Tuesday, July 19)
However, we aren’t all experiencing the same heat it seems, and the Met Office is now able to reveal which areas have reached the hottest temperatures in the North East today.
These are the hottest places in the North East today?
Currently, Middlesbrough, Darlington and Newton Aycliffe take the melted cake for the hottest temperatures in the region – with Middlesbrough just taking the lead by 1 degree.
Newton Aycliffe is currently sitting at 32c but will soon 33c at 4pm with temperatures steadily dropping to 24c by 11pm.
In Darlington, it is currently 33c with highs of 34c are predicted at 4pm until 5pm when they will steadily drop to 25c by 11pm tonight.

However, Middlesbrough takes the lead to be the hottest place in the North East at the moment with a sweltering temperature of 34c.
This is set to increase to a peak of 35c at 5pm with it steadily dropping to 28c by 11pm tonight.
Which area of the North East will be hottest tomorrow?
As we are well aware by now, temperatures are only meant to be even hotter tomorrow as the peak of the heatwave sweeps across the UK.
Darlington, Newton Aycliffe and Middlesbrough are currently set to experience the same temperatures with highs of 37c predicted for all areas.
This may change as we draw nearer to the time, however.
