A new retro gaming arcade bar set to open in Newcastle city centre next month is calling for North East gamers to test out the venue before it opens.

At the weekend The Northern Echo revealed that the new bar would open for the first time at 4pm on Friday August 5 on Pilgrim Street, next to Alvinos bar.

Bosses at NQ64 say the new venue ‘promises to have a game and drink for everyone and every occasion’.

Visitors can expect R&B and hip-hop music and about 30 arcade gaming machines including classics like Pac Man, Space Invaders and Guitar Hero.

Now the venue is calling for game testers to get a chance to try out the venue ahead of the official opening on August 5.

Owners say that testers will have ‘free reign’ of the venue to test the retro arcade games and consoles, while having a sneak peak inside and testing out complimentary drinks.

Matt Robson, founder of NQ64, said: “We’re super busy getting Newcastle’s venue ready to open for the first week of August, working day and night with our amazing team, preparing the neon graffiti interiors, bespoke lighting, new cocktails and the ultimate gaming rooms.

“NQ64 will be bringing something new to the Newcastle entertainment scene and we can’t wait to launch on 5th August! If you fancy helping us with our games testing, then check out our Instagram to find out more.”

The company already runs eight venues across the country with spots in Manchester, Soho, Glasgow, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Cardiff, and Liverpool but the Newcastle bar will be bigger as the first to be set across two floors.

The bar will be open seven days a week, opening at 4pm Monday to Friday and at 12pm on weekends, until 2am most nights.

Anyone who wants to apply to be a games tester should follow @nq64newcastle on Instagram where owners will post instructions on how to take part. Testers will be chosen at random and notified via Instagram by Friday July 22.
