This weekend, most of the country will see temperatures soar before they peak on Tuesday, with the Met Office issuing a red weather warning.
The North East is set to heat up slowly over today (Saturday, July 16) and tomorrow (Sunday, July 17) before the country deals with temperatures in the early to mid 30s by the beginning of next week.
The public is being urged to alter their routines in the coming days, to avoid unnecessary travel and exertion, and to stay hydrated in conditions most Britons are not accustomed to.
Temperatures as high as 40c have been predicted for many in the UK on Sunday, beating the current record of 38.7c in Cambridge Botanical Gardens in 2019.
