A Middlesbrough retailer is the only venue to be given a zero rating with the rest of the businesses receiving a one-star rating.

The Food Standards Agency rates businesses across the country on their cleanliness giving them a rating between 1 and 5.

The Northern Echo:

But what does each rating mean?

0 – means the business needs urgent improvement

1 – means the business needs major improvement

2 – means some improvements are necessary

3 – means hygiene standards are generally satisfactory

4 – means hygiene standards are good

5 – means hygiene standards are very good
