Two men are set to appear in court following the death of a man after he suffered ‘significant’ head injuries following an incident in Thirsk.

Last year, on October 16, 32-year-old Alan Barefoot suffered serious head injuries in an incident outside the White Horse Café in Thirsk Market Place.

Mr Barefoot was rushed to hospital, but sadly later died of his injuries.

An investigation was launched by North Yorkshire Police Major Investigation Team.

A 22-year-old man from Thirsk was charged with manslaughter following the incident.

A 25-year-old man, also from Thirsk,  has also been charged with affray resulting from the same incident.

Two other people were arrested after the incident at the time, however, no further action was taken against them.

Both men are set to appear in York Magistrates Court on August 18 2022.
