Northumbrian Water has updated homeowners in County Durham about what time they can expect their water to be back on after a main pipe burst – leaving 20 properties without water and a rural road flooded.

Pine Road, between Ferryhill and Metal Bridge was closed at around 6am on Monday (July 11) morning after a large quantity of water appeared on the road surface.

After the first reports of the incident were made, engineers from Northumbrian Water attended the site and managed to clear the water on the road.

The road was then partially reopened at around 11.20am.

Following the ‘flooding incident’, Northumbrian Water has confirmed that the water on Pine Road was caused by a burst water main – and assured property owners that the issue would be resolved by mid-afternoon.

In a statement, the agency initially told The Northern Echo: “Our teams are currently repairing a burst pipe in Ferryhill, County Durham, which is affecting supply to around 20 customers.

"We are sorry for the inconvenience, especially on such a hot day, and our teams are working hard to restore supply to all those affected as quickly as possible and to support customers with bottled water.

“We expect all properties’ supply to be restored early this afternoon.

“We worked this morning to remove excess water from the road and this is now open, with traffic management in place while we complete the repair.

“We are working to keep those customers affected informed and updates will also be available on Twitter at @nwater_care. Any customers who need any additional support can contact our team on 0345 7171100.”

“We expect supplies to be restored by 5pm.

“Thank you for your continued patience.”
