Three people were taken to hospital following a crash in Newcastle this morning.

The emergency services were called to the scene just after 5.20am on Monday (July 11).

Police confirmed a single vehicle had crashed into a wall in Silver Lonnen, in the Fenham area, damaging a number of properties.

There were reports the crash caused an oil spillage and there was disruption for motorists as police had to close the road for cleaning.

The road was closed, causing congestion in Slatyford Lane, but has now reopened.

The male driver and a passenger were taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) in Newcastle for treatment.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 5.20am today (Monday), we received a report of a one vehicle collision on Silver Lonnen, Newcastle.

“It was reported that a car collided with a wall, damaging a number of properties.

“The male driver of the car and male passenger were taken to the RVI for treatment.

“The road was closed for cleansing but has now been re-opened.”

A spoksperson from the North East Ambulance Service said: “We were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Silver Lonnen in Newcastle at 5.19am this morning.

“We dispatched three ambulance crews and a specialist paramedic and transported three patients to the RVI.”
