The UK could experience its hottest day ever next Sunday with temperatures set to reach as high as 40c, but in the North East, today could be the hottest day of the year so far.
The current record-breaking temperature for the UK’s hottest ever day is set at 38.7c by Cambridge Botanic Garden in July 2019.

However, this could be soon broken with some areas of the South reaching mid-30s and a 10% chance of reaching 40c.
This week the North East is set for a record-breaking heatwave, with the mercury already heating up to over 28c in the North East today.
But what will the weather be like in the North East, and will we see any record-breaking temperatures?
What’s the weather like in the North East next Sunday?
According to the Met Office’s long-range weather forecast, sunny and dry conditions will prevail for most under the influence of high pressure.

However, showers and strong winds have been predicted for northwest areas.
The weather forecast for Darlington on Sunday, July 17 has predicted highs of 25c, possibly reaching 26c.
However, it doesn’t look like we’ll be seeing anything higher than that.
In Durham, temperatures of 25c have also been predicted, however, in more southern areas, such as Northallerton in North Yorkshire, highs of 28c have been predicted.
What will the weather be like this week?
Today, similar high temperatures have been predicted for much of the North East, with it being the hottest day of the year so far, due to a dry and very warm day with long spells of hazy sunshine.
The mercury could reach as high as 28c today for many North East areas.

Tomorrow conditions will become generally cloudier with some patchy rain moving South, clearer conditions will follow from the North.
Although it will still feel warm, a moderate temperature of 22c has been forecast for Tuesday in the North East.
The outlook from Wednesday to Friday claims that there will be mainly dry and sunny spells, with some isolated showers over Western Hills.
Friday will be cloudier in the North with some patchy rain possible, but mostly dry with sunny spells.
