A death on the railway line at Darlington in the early hours of this morning has caused major disruption to North East train services.
Many services have been cancelled, rail replacement buses have been drafted in and some trains have been diverted to Hartlepool - missing out Durham station altogether.

The incident has affected main line trains between Scotland and London that would normally serve Newcastle, Durham and Darlington.
Passengers are being urged to check train operator websites or National Rail Enquiries before they travel to find out how their service has been affected.

Here is the advice currently being given to passengers of the various train services.
Northern
Some services between Newcastle and Darlington may be diverted via Hartlepool and in these instances, Durham station will not be served.
Rail replacement buses have been requested to run.
Further details will be given by National Rail once these are confirmed.
LNER
LNER customers affected by train cancellations between Newcastle and Darlington can use their tickets on Northern services between Middlesbrough and Darlington. Rail replacement is being sourced for onward travel between Darlington and York.
Tickets can also be used on Transpennine Express trains via any available route and on Northern trains between Middlesbrough and Darlington.
There is also mutual ticket acceptance on Cross Country services between Edinburgh and York.

Rail replacement buses have been requested to run between Newcastle and York.
Cross Country
CrossCountry passengers affected by cancellations due to the death on the Darlington line are being advised that they can use their tickets on the following services instead:
Avanti West Coast between Edinburgh and Birmingham New Street
Grand Central between Sunderland and York
LNER between Edinburgh and York
Northern via any reasonable route
TransPennine Express via any reasonable route
Tyne & Wear Metro services between Newcastle and Sunderland
