A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after his victim arrived at a North East hospital with a stab wound.

The victim remains in hospital in a “stable condition” as detectives investigate the cause of his injuries.

Officers from the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team (HMET) are working alongside Cleveland Police after a man presented himself at the University Hospital of North Tees with a stab wound around 11.30pm on Wednesday.

Officers are preserving a number of possible scenes as part of their ongoing enquiries.

They are believed to be a section of the car park at the hospital, an area near Hardwick shops on Whessoe Road, and a section of Piper Knowle Road.

A statement from Cleveland Police added: “A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and he remains in police custody at this time.

“Anyone with information, CCTV or dash cam footage from the area of Piper Knowle Road around 11:30pm last night, Wednesday 6th July, is asked to call Cleveland Police on 101, quoting ref 117381, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, or go online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.”
