A Darlington street was locked down as police responded to an emergency incident on Sunday.
A man was taken to hospital after an assault on Langdale Road at around 5.15pm.
Police responded to the incident after receiving a report of a burglary near to Neasham Road.
An air ambulance helicopter landed near to the scene as an ambulance crew transported one patient to Darlington Memorial Hospital.
An eyewitness reported hearing the helicopter overhead as police officers locked off Langdale Road by erecting a police cordon between the Darlington Kar Parts and Beauty Bar businesses on Neasham Road.
They said they were unaware of what had happened, but had just moved to the area and described the scenes on their doorstep as “scary”.

Police continue to investigate the incident.
A spokesperson from Durham Constabulary said: "Officers were called shortly before 5.15pm yesterday (July 3) to reports of a burglary at a property in Neasham Road, Darlington.
"Two men sustained injuries during the incident and were taken to hospital for treatment.
"Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.
"Anyone with any information that could assist the investigation is asked to call Durham Constabulary on 101, quoting incident number 285 of July 3.
"Alternatively, information can be passed on to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
