An axe-throwing venue is adding something a bit sweeter with the opening of a new doughnut store after the success of its Darlington venture.
Hatchet Harry’s in Newcastle, off Forth Banks, will be the second in the UK to house a branch of Harry’s Handcrafted Doughnuts, following a successful launch of the sister brand shop in Darlington's High Row in January.

To celebrate the Newcastle opening, the store will be giving away one free doughnut per person after 11am on Saturday, July 2, until stocks run out.
Newcastle was the first centre to host axe-throwing leisure activity Hatchet Harry’s when the firm launched in 2019.
The company has since gone on to open six other axe-throwing venues around the UK, with another opening in Brighton later this month.
The doughnut venture began after Covid restrictions forced the temporary closure of all Hatchet Harry’s venues.
So business owners Jack Beadle and Richard Bridge cooked up another enterprise to make ends meet.
Harry’s Handcrafted Doughnuts began as an online delivery business via social media, but the sticky treats became so popular that the pair decided to take the brand to the high street.
After regular sell-out success in Darlington, they are now planning to open further doughnut outlets across the UK, using part of existing Hatchet Harry’s premises where space allows.
Jack said: “Our fantastic customers in Newcastle gave us the support and the means to rapidly expand our axe-throwing locations across the UK.
“So it’s only fair that Newcastle’s Hatchet Harry’s gets to benefit from the arrival of our sister business Harry’s Handcrafted Doughnuts.

“Our stand-alone doughnut store in Darlington proved so popular that we are confident the Newcastle launch will also be a huge success.
"We can’t wait to let people sample our mouth-watering products for free on Saturday.”
The doughnut giveaway will operate on a one-per-person, first-come-first-served basis, until the day’s stock has all gone.
Hatchet Harry’s currently operates at centres in Newcastle, Glasgow, Liverpool, Aberdeen, Nottingham, Middlesbrough and Derby.
