A cement lorry overturned and shed its load, causing the partial closure of a road in a North East village this morning (July 1).

Emergency services were alerted after the lorry came to grief on the A6085 Newburn Road in Throckley, near Newcastle.

The crash caused traffic disruption to morning commuters.

Diggers were at the scene helping to help clear the cement from the road, while a crane and large removal vehicle were used to move the stricken vehicle.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “At 8.15am today (Friday) we received a report of a wagon that was carrying cement had overturned in the Hexham Road area of Throckley.

“Emergency services are at the scene. Thankfully nobody is seriously injured.”

The scene was cleared by shortly after noon.
