A seven-month long fundraising campaign has brought life-saving equipment to the Richmond community.

After leading the fundraising initiative, Care UK’s The Terrace, on Maison-Dieu, has now installed a defibrillator right outside its premises.

The project was led by The Terrace’s senior carer Emma Deighton who was keen to make more defibrillators available to the local community.

With help from care home staff, and local charity Heart of Richmond, they launched an appeal and hosted a variety of fundraising events, including raffles, to cover the costs of the installation.

The defibrillator, which is registered on the National Defibrillator Network, is now available for all in the community to use and will be maintained by the team at The Terrace for years to come.

Emma said: “Defibrillators are a vital piece of equipment that all communities should have an abundance of, which is why I’m thrilled to be unveiling Richmond’s latest one, right here at The Terrace.

“We’re immensely grateful to Lee Whitworth at Heart of Richmond for his advice, but also to everyone who has helped us in the process – whether they’ve supported our appeal, attended a fundraising event or bought raffle tickets.”

Judy Wray, home manager at The Terrace, added: “We’re so proud of Emma and the rest of the team for bringing this new defibrillator to the home and the rest of the community.

“Here at The Terrace, we strive to promote the highest possible standards of care, which sometimes require sophisticated equipment – and we believe the community should also benefit from those standards.

“The defibrillator’s installation is the result of months of hard work from the team, and I am delighted to see their efforts being rewarded.

"Congratulations Emma and team."
