Fed-up firefighters have called for a serial arsonist to stop after having to extinguish the same bailed grass at a County Durham farm three times in the last three days.
Fire crews from Spennymoor Fire Station have been required to attend deliberate fires at Old Quarrington Hill Farm on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday evenings – which has led to the destruction of numerous tonnes of bales.
On each occasion, two fire engines have been called to the scene of the fires – with County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue working closely with Durham Police to try and establish who is setting the fires.

Now, after the third evening of having to extinguish the farmland, the fire service took to social media on Monday (June 27) to call on the people responsible to stop.
Starting their post with “Third night in a row!” – the emergency service went on to explain the situation, by saying: “Our crews are currently in attendance at a fire at Old Quarrington Hill Farm.
“This is a large amount of bailed grass which we believe to have been started deliberately for the third time over the last three days.”
Alongside the warning to the arsonist, firefighters have also highlighted that members of the public should be vigilant – adding: “if you have any information regarding Incidents in your area please call Firestoppers anonymously on 0800 169 5558.”
