A damning report into Teesside Airshow has highlighted a ‘number of shortcomings’ in the planning which caused the event to descend into chaos with huge queues of traffic.
The air show, which was held on Saturday June 11 was plagued by traffic problems with ticketholders and holidaymakers due to fly from the airport stuck in queues around the airport for hours.
A highly anticipated report into SkyLive Airshow has outlined a ‘number of shortcomings’ which led to the traffic problems on the day and said Teesside Airport is ‘very unlikely’ to host another air show in the future.
The damning report said it was ‘incredibly disappointing’ that the air show was ‘overshadowed’ by ‘serious traffic issues’ and said that there are a number of lessons to be learned from the event.

It identified there were ‘no arrangements in place’ for police to be at the event, despite over 20,000 people planning to attend. Police only attended after the traffic had built up.
The Public Event Safety Advisory Group (PESAG) responsible for planning the event only met once to discuss it and did not invite the traffic management company to the meeting.
The report concluded that the airport is ‘very unlikely’ to host another air show on its site in the future ‘without significant reassurance’ that the issues raised in the report would be dealt with.

Refunds will be given to those who did not make it into the air show and were forced to watch from the road as they were stuck in the queues of traffic.
