Images have been released of JD Sports new flagship North East store following its grand opening over the weekend.
On Saturday (June 25), the leading sport, fashion and outdoor retailer welcomed local sneakerheads and reinforced its status as the ‘King of Trainers’ after opening in Metrocentre, Gateshead.
Footwear fanatics and streetwear trendsetters filled the store on launch day taking advantage of the various iconic brands on offer.

One area of the store that was extremely busy was the customisation area, where consumers were able to put their own creative mark on their new purchases for no additional cost, welcoming JD’s arrival to Metrocentre.
To celebrate the store opening, Geordie superstar DJ and producer, Jerome Price - who has worked with artists such as Deadmau5 and has over 60 million streams - got the crowds dancing with an Ibiza-inspired soundtrack, alongside local Newcastle TikTok power couple, Nathan and Grace who welcomed consumers into the new store.
The 18,000 sq. ft North-East flagship, which has tech and innovation at its heart and is home to over 50 iconic brands, has created an influx of new jobs for the community.

JD Sports has been a hub of innovation since 1981, evolving to reflect Newcastle’s ever-changing culture and becoming a space where consumers come together to share their passion for streetwear and celebrate self-expression through style.
JD Sports Fashion PLC said: “JD Sports has occupied a special place on the nation’s high streets for over 40 years. We pride ourselves on embracing the communities that shop with us and the culture that surrounds us, and this new Metrocentre store embodies that commitment.”
Ben Cox of Sovereign Centros, senior asset manager for Metrocentre, added: “It’s fantastic to unveil the new flagship JD Sports store, a truly exceptional fitout from one of our leading brands. The store is set to be the largest in the region, providing an upgraded destination for streetwear and sports apparel from over 40 of the biggest and best brands around.
“The opening follows the recent launch of H beauty by Harrods in lower Town Square earlier this month with other exciting developments in the pipeline. Major occupiers continue to invest in Metrocentre as the leading regional destination for retail, hospitality, and leisure.”
