A 69-year-old man died at the scene of a crash on the A698 this afternoon after his motorcycle crashed with a car on the busy road.

The incident happened shortly after 2pm on today (Saturday, June 25) and police received reports of a crash between a car and motorcycle on the A698 at Wideopen Plantation Junction.

Officers and emergency services attended the scene and found a male motorcyclist on the road but he had sadly died at the scene.

According to police, his next of kin are being supported by specialist officers at this tragic time.

An investigation has been launched to find out the circumstances around the crash and police are now appealing for any witnesses, especially anyone who might have dashcam footage of the incident to come forward.

A spokesperson for Northumberland Police, said: “Sergeant Ray Lowery, from Northumbria Police’s Motor Patrols department, has now appealed for anybody who witnessed the collision, or who has information that may assist the ongoing investigation, to come forward.
