The A167 has been closed following a serious crash in the early hours of the morning and police have asked drivers to find an alternative route - here’s the best ways to get into Darlington this morning.

If you regularly travel on the A167 into Darlington, you might find yourself stuck this morning due to a, sadly, “serious” crash.

But these are a few other ways to get into Darlington as drivers have been asked to use alternative routes.

 Through Cockerton

The best alternative way to get into Darlington is through Cockerton, which will mean travelling further down the A1(M) and turning off at Junction 58.

You can then continue down the A68 into the centre of Darlington.

Due to this being a good alternative route, however, traffic is building up quickly and the road already looks very busy, leading to longer journey times.

Onto Burtree Lane

If you’re travelling into Darlington on the A68 another good alternative route would be to turn onto Burtree Lane before reaching the junction with the A1(M).

Follow the road along until it meets up with the A167, avoiding this morning’s road closure.

This is also another busy route already according to Google’s live-traffic updates.

Through Great Stainton

Another longer route would be through Great Stainton, especially if you’re travelling from Aycliffe.

Find your way to the A167 and but turn off either at Ricknall Lane or Lime Lane and continue up to Great Stainton turning right onto Elstob Lane all the way until you reach Great Burdon and turn right to meet up with the A167.

According to Police the diversion is expected to be in place “for the foreseeable future” so alternative routes may have to be used for some time.
