A steakhouse restaurant chain has confirmed when its new branch is set to open in York city centre after plans were submitted before the pandemic.
Plans for the brand new Miller & Carter steakhouse restaurant are set to move ahead after they were submitted before the Covid-19 pandemic in 2019.
Since then, progress has been slow with very few updates on the much-anticipated place-to-eat.
However, altercations to the application were submitted at the end of May and it has now been confirmed the restaurant is set to open in the summer of 2023.
A spokesperson for Miller & Carter said: “We are happy to confirm that Miller & Carter York is going ahead with plans to open mid-2023.”
The new restaurant will see a large open plan interior and an ancillary bar with the remainder of the restaurant being utilised as a restaurant kitchen.
Where will the new restaurant be built?
The venue will be located in a Grade II listed building of a former Post Office, which closed in 2019 after 135 years.
A petition was launched to keep the branch open and was signed by 3,000 people, however, it was not successful.
The popular steak restaurant has been awarded “Master of Steaks” from the prestigious Craft Guild of Chefs for their prime 30 day aged steak cuts.
Miller & Carter currently have three other branches in the North East with one in Sunderland, and two in Newcastle.
The restaurant joins several other venues opening in the North East, including TGI Fridays set to open in Durham’s, The Riverwalk.
Announcing the news earlier this week, Clearbell Property Partners, revealed that the American-inspired food & cocktail restaurant chain would be moving into the City of Durham by ‘the end of the year’.
Darlington is set to see a new Chinese restaurant named Yoby, on the site of the former Royal Bank of Scotland.
The building has stood empty since the bank closed in 2018.
Now, four years later, work is underway to breathe new life into the dormant building, which fronts the pedestrianised shopping area in the town centre.
We recently reviewed a brand new Indian restaurant opening on the A66 near Darlington.
