A 39-year-old woman has pleaded guilty to the murder of her two-year-old son.
Carol Hodgson admitted killing Daniel James Hodgson Green during a short hearing at Teesside Crown Court this afternoon.
The youngster was taken to hospital on February 2 this year after concerns were raised about his safety.
It was confirmed later that day that the toddler had died.
No details of Daniel's injuries have been revealed in court and his mother has been remanded in custody to be sentenced next month.
Speaking after the hearing, Cleveland Police's Detective Inspector Matt Hollingsworth said: “Today our thoughts are with Daniel’s family. The loss of Daniel, at such a young age, is beyond comprehension.
“I’d like to thank all the team who have worked on this harrowing investigation and ensured that we could bring this matter to court.”

At an earlier hearing, the court heard how she has indicated that there will be an admission that she was 'criminally responsible for the death of Daniel'.
Christopher Atkinson, Head of the Crown Court Unit at CPS North East, said: “Over the course of this case the Crown Prosecution Service has worked closely with our colleagues in Cleveland Police.
"Through the comprehensive evidence that they have provided, the Crown Prosecution Service has been able to clearly establish the tragic sequence of events which culminated in Daniel’s death.
“In response to a robust case against her, Carol Hodgson has now pleaded guilty to Daniel’s murder and we sincerely hope that those who knew Daniel find some measure of comfort in this, at what must remain a very difficult time for them.”
The young boy's death left residents in Guisborough in a state of shock and a week later around 100 people including family members and friends gathered with flowers, balloons, candles, and cuddly toys to remember two-year-old.
Hodgson, of Upper Garth Gardens, Guisborough, will be sentenced on July 15 at Teesside Crown Court.
