A WOMAN who lashed out and kicked a police officer and called her a ‘silly slag’ as she arrested her has been jailed for one day.

Cheryl Lloyd kicked the officer on the leg as she screamed abuse at her as she was being placed into the rear of a police vehicle.

Teesside Crown Court heard how the 42-year-old was facing another charge in relation to her arrest but the Crown Prosecution Service offered no evidence in connection with that offence and she was found not guilty.

Uzma Khan, prosecuting, said: “When she is being removed and put into the back of the vehicle she kicks out, making contact with the officer’s shin causing pain.”

Initially, Lloyd blamed the officer for kicking her but did accept she called her a ‘silly slag’.

Lloyd, of Furness Street, Hartlepool, pleaded guilty to assaulting an emergency worker following her arrest on February 25.

The court heard she has six previous convictions for seven offences dating back as far as January 2002.

Martin Scarborough, in mitigation, said his client had no previous offences for violence and it was a single kick that she inflicted on the officer.

Judge Paul Watson QC, the Recorder of Middlesbrough, sentenced her to one day in custody as the other charge had been ‘hanging over her head’ for more than three months.

He added: “I don’t take kindly, and neither do the general public, to people who lash out at police officers just going about their duties. It’s fair to say that you have been put through a bit for the past couple of months in relation to this assault.

“I take the view that in this particular case, with these particular facts, I will impose just one day in custody.”
