A CRICKET club has applied for planning permission to remove and maintain several trees from its grounds which are in varying states of growth and degradation.
Richmondshire Cricket Club chairman Mark Layfield has applied to Richmondshire District Council to remove some of the 60 trees to the east of the grounds, next to the pathway towards the town's Friary Hospital.
Several trees are infected with hymenoscyphus fraxineus disease and have been marked as a top priority to be removed. Others need maintaining and ivy removal.
Arborist Thomas Palk-Meikle said in his report: "The majority of the minor remedial tree works recommended involves dead-wooding or the removal of ivy. In some cases, this is only one to two pieces of dead wood, however as this is a sports club, and several trees are growing adjacent to the public footpath and play areas, deadwood should be removed from tree canopies to avoid risk of injury when falling."
