THE Met Office has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms set to hit much of the North East today – here’s when.
Parts of the North East will see heavy, slow moving showers as well as thunderstorms this afternoon as the weather forecaster warns of a small chance of businesses and homes flooding.
The news comes after the Met Office recently revealed that the North East could expect to see further thunder hit the region later this week.

When will the thunderstorm hit?
The storm is expected to strike at 1pm today and last until 8pm tonight with a chance of delays to services due to flooding and lightning strikes.
Chances of hail and strong winds have also been predicted as part of the storm along with spray and sudden flooding causing difficult driving conditions and some road closures.
There is also a slight chance of power cuts as well as the loss of other services to homes and businesses.
Much of the North East and areas of County Durham will be affected by the storm.
Although some of the North East lies outside of the warning area, however, this doesn’t mean they escape the extreme weather.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: “National Severe Weather Warning Service warns of the potential impacts caused by severe weather and the likelihood of those impacts occurring.
“This does not mean that areas outside the warning area will not see severe weather, just that the more extreme impacts are expected within the warning zone.”
What is the weather like tomorrow?
Tomorrow is expected to see further cloudy days, particularly for those on the coast who will have quite a murky start.
It will be generally dry but there will be the odd light shower possible with a maximum temperature of 19c, making it a nice warm day.
