A YOUNG baby has died following a medical emergency at home in County Durham.
Paramedics were called out this morning (Tuesday, June 7) after the child suffered a suspected cardiac arrest.
An air ambulance and road crew rushed to the South Moor area, near Stanley, after the alarm was raised shorty after 8am.
The baby, believed to be three months old, was taken to hospital by road but died shortly after arrival.
A spokesperson for the Great North Air Ambulance said a crew arrived in the village at 8.34am.
She said: “There were reports of a medical incident.
“It has been reported as a possible cardiac arrest.
“We had a doctor and two paramedics on board and they assessed and treated the patient.
“The patient was taken to hospital by the North East Ambulance Service accompanied by our team.”
A NEAS spokesperson said: "We received a call at 8.08am this morning to reports of a medical incident at a private address in the South Moor area of Stanley, County Durham.
“We dispatched one ambulance crew, two specialist paramedics, and requested support from the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS).
"One patient was taken to hospital by road."
Police have said an investigation is now underway to establish the circustances surroundind the child's death.
A spokeswoman for Durham Constabulary said: “Police were called to an address in Stanley shortly after 8.15am this morning.
“Paramedics also attended, and a baby was taken to the University Hospital of North Durham.
“Sadly, the baby died shortly after arrival.
“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the baby’s death, which is currently being treated as unexplained.”
