A DARLINGTON gin distiller has created a special gin to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
Jay Byers of Steel River Drinks, which has a distillery in Darlington and a bar and shop in Stockton, decided to make a gin fit for a queen to mark the grand occasion.
The special edition bottles are decorated with mini crowns and union flags. There are two different gins, one London Dry, and one flavoured with strawberry, cucumber and mint.
The London Dry Jubilee gin bottle contains a mini taster of the strawberry, cucumber and mint gin, and vice versa.

Jay put a call out on social media a few weeks ago to ask his followers what gin they would like to celebrate the Jubilee. He expected most people to be enthusiastic over a classic London Dry gin, but to his surprise people were equally excited about a fruity number.
“To be honest I hadn’t considered a strawberry-flavoured gin but people asked for it so that’s what we delivered. They’ve both been really popular but orders for the fruity one have been gone through the roof.
“We’ve sold over 700 so far so clearly people must like it! I've had to order more bottles and more crowns.”
The distillery in Albert Hill in Darlington opened in 2018, and in December 2021 the business expanded and opened a bar and speakeasy in Stockton.

As part of its Jubilee celebrations, today (Tuesday, May 31) all online orders on gin cans of the following gin varieties; Stainsby Girl, El Clasico and Club Tropicana are all 10p until 10pm tonight. This has been so popular, however, the website is down due to the traffic.
“It’s been absolutely crazy today since I mentioned the 10p sale on Facebook this morning. Everyone’s gone mental for it! Which is great but the website has been so busy that it’s now down so we’re extending the sale instore too.”
The sale continues instore on Ascot Drive in Stockton on Thursday, June 1 and Friday, June 2 so customers have not lost their chance to grab a bargain.
