PRIME Minister Boris Johnson made a shock admission about a Teesside delicacy when he visited the region on Friday (May 27) after revealing the last time he’d had a Parmo.

For those that aren’t initiated in the ‘art’ of a Parmo – the dish consists of a breaded cutlet of chicken or pork topped with a white béchamel sauce and cheese – and is massively calorific.

Originally from Teesside, there’s plenty of restaurants across Middlesbrough and beyond that you can get yourself a Parmo.

Despite becoming a firm favourite in this part of the country, a Parmo might be the last conversation topic that you thought the Prime Minister of the UK would engage in.

However, on a trip to the North East on Friday (May 27), Prime Minister Boris Johnson spoke about a parmo – and then revealed when he’d last eaten one.

After facing some questions over the cost-of-living crisis, Sue Gray report and Partygate, Mr Johnson showed his relaxed side during a visit to Cityfibre’s DTN Training Academy in Stockton, by exclaiming the word “Parmo” when discussing food and the impact on food businesses when it comes to the cost of living.

It was then revealed by Stockton South MP, Matt Vickers, that the Prime Minister had tried a Parmo last time he was in the North East – prompting the PM to say: “I did have one – I think it was at least a year ago now,” before asking others about their Parmo preferences and adding: “are you a regular Parmo fan?” to those nearby.

So, there we have it – even the Prime Minister tucks into a Parmo from time to time.
