A MAN has been jailed after admitting a racially aggravated assault.

Jonathan Liddle, of Lake View, Wingate, pleaded guilty to the offence at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

The court heard Liddle assaulted his victim in Wingate on July 16 last year, and the offence was racially aggravated.

He pleaded guilty to the offence after an earlier pleading not guilty.

The 29-year-old was jailed for 22 weeks as the offence was committed while he was subject to a community order.

Liddle was also ordered to pay a £128 victim surcharge.
