A MAN who committed a string of offences before spending four hours refusing to come down from the roof of a house has been jailed.

Jamie Byron Taylor was arrested by officers after trying to run from the house in Hedley Close, in Newton Aycliffe, on Saturday, May 21.

Officers were called to reports of aggressive and threatening behaviour by Taylor at about 3.45pm.

He was charged with several offences, including affray, racially aggravated criminal damage, assault, and criminal damage.

The 22-year-old, of Newton Aycliffe, was jailed for 48 weeks after admitting the charges when he appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on Monday, May 23.

He was also ordered to pay £1,600 in compensation.
A spokesman for Durham Constabulary said: “This incident took place during the middle of the day and Taylor had no regard for those around him.

“Thankfully, the incident was brought to a safe conclusion and Taylor was brought into custody.

“We are grateful to those involved and members of the public who witnessed the incident for helping us to deal with it so quickly.

“It resulted in him starting a custodial sentence within two days.

“Anti-social behaviour causes a great deal of misery on many people’s lives, and we will ensure that where offences are committed, we will work with the local community and seek a prosecution.

“Hopefully, this will act as a deterrent for others.”
