POLICE have been able to get a distressed man to safety following an incident at a railway bridge.
Emergency services have been on the scene of an incident near the A19 in Stockton.
The road was closed in both directions around the Norton Railway Bridge.
Cleveland Police said it haS been able to get a man to safety.
A spokesperson said: "Police dealing with a distressed man on Norton Railway Bridge, which is before the turn off to the A1027 on the A19, have been able to get the man to safety and in the care of professionals.
"Traffic officers are now assisting drivers on the A19 to progress with their journey, before opening the road fully, which should take place over the next 30 mins. We would like to thank drivers for their patience whilst we dealt with this unexpected and serious incident."

Diversions were put in place and drivers were being told to avoid the area if possible.
