AS the country gears up for the Platinum Jubilee celebrations, Darlington has been getting into the spirit of things with some extravagant displays.

The Northern Echo headed into town to see which displays were the most eye-catching.

Plenty of shops, bars and hair salons had excellent window displays and some unknown yarn-bombers had been out in Mowden decorating post boxes.

Here are some of our favourites.

  • Dr.Inks, Coniscliffe Road

Staff at this cocktail bar did not hold back with their display. Complete with red, white and blue ballons, a little throne and a Corgi with a tiara, it was clear a lot of effort had been put into this.

Manager of Dr.Inks, Dan Middleton, said: "We usually go all out with our window displays and our customers kind of expect it now. Customers have been taking pictures with it. Orginally we wanted people to be able to see it while sitting outside but we're not able to have outdoor seating.

"Our customers know we like to have out-there displays so it was no different the Jubilee."

Union flags were hanging from this dance boutique on Bondgate with some baloons thrown in for good measure. We loved this patriotic display.
