A POPULAR pub owner has slammed a North East hotel after he said it was “like a prison” and it was “by far the worst hotel" he has stayed in.
Craig Harker, owner of The George Pub and Grill in Stockton, spent £29 on a room at the nearby Metro Inn hotel in Stockton in a bid to try it out.
Taking to Facebook live to thousands of followers, he listed off scathing criticism for the venue where he said he could imagine the hotel being “worse than prison.”

During the Facebook Live, Mr Harker began talking to the camera where he claimed he had never seen a hotel that bad before.
The hotel room appears to consist of a double bed, a single bed above, a side table and drawers and a sink with a mirror.
In the "video review," he goes on to describe how the room smells “awful” and there is “a really strong smoking smell" among the furniture.

Filming the sink area the sink looks old but not very clean and he says it is “by far the worst hotel experience I’ve had” in the UK.
He goes on to say: “It’s got a very old radiator, bad paintwork, and it’s not very clean, but I suppose if you want to get your head down it’s got a bed, a double and a single.
“This is awful, I definitely wouldn’t bring my kids here, I wouldn’t even stay here myself, it's intimidating and dirty inside.”
He continues to review and film the toilet, which is separate from the room, and shared, which he says also stinks and that the lock on the door does not work.

Filming the shower, which was also dirty, he concludes that the whole place needs “a good scrub, some TLC and some money spending on it.”
On TripAdvisor the hotel has received very mixed reviews with an overall rating of three stars out of five.
However, the venue has received 31 “average” views and 28 “terrible” reviews.
One TripAdvisor reviewer said: “The room was full of cigarette smoke smell. There's no attached toilet and the hotel is situated literally in an industrial estate.
“There are ample parking spaces and a kitchen available to cook your own food. The reception is a bit of a mess and the reception lady was not very welcoming.
“The hotel provides free internet, however, the speed is extremely slow."
Another TripAdvisor reviewer said “you get what you pay for” and added that the room was “ok-ish” but appeared “clean.”
However, another person said: “Stayed at the Teesside hotel on Sat 17th August. Staff were very helpful and friendly prior to (via email) and during stay.
“Room was functional and relatively comfortable (better than I expected). Very good value - would recommend, especially for short stays.”
