SIGNS advising customers that a leisure complex is closed for the "foreseeable" remain as The Gate in Newcastle remains shut.
Last night, those at the Newgate Street leisure complex were evacuated as customers reported staff directing them to the exits.
Some had reported being in the middle of screenings at the Cineworld Complex on the third floor while it is understood restaurant diners were the first to leave.

That prompted worry and concern from customers as they were left waiting outside for more information only to be informed the venue would remain closed.
As of midday on Friday (May 6) this was the case.
In a statement last night, bosses at the venue said the "identification of a safety concern with the building" had led to the closure.
It said: "The Gate is temporarily closed.
"Following the identification of a safety concern with the building at The Gate, we have implemented a temporary closure (excluding the Mayfair and Hustle which remain open."
"We recognise the impact this closure will have on businesses and visitors of The Gate, and we are working to reopen as soon as it is safe and practical to do so.
"Thank you for your patience and understanding."
However, venue bosses have not yet confirmed the nature of this "serious incident," and no exact reopening date has been announced.
That means The Gate could potentially remain closed for the rest of the day and into the weekend while bosses continue to investigate.
There has been no further updates posted by The Gate on either its social media channels or website, while they have not yet responded to The Echo.
Meanwhile, Northumbria Police has confirmed it is not involved with the incident nor was it involved last night.
