TRAFFIC light failure caused disruption on a busy Darlington road yesterday morning.

Traffic was moving slow at the junction of North Road, Bonomi Way and Albert Road at Darlington North Retail Park on Tuesday morning due to a lights failure.

Cars were forced to slow down and navigate the junction, causing lengthy tailbacks.

A spokesperson for Darlington Council said and the traffic lights were repaired later in the day, allowing traffic to flow freely in the afternoon.

It comes as a major road in Darlington is set to be closed for more than a year due to work on a significant new attraction in the town.

Bonomi Way, off North Road, closed yesterday (Tuesday) for 55 weeks while the work takes place.

The closure is because work has started on the construction of the Rail Heritage Quarter in Darlington.
