A MAN has been charged following a burglary of a pensioner’s home in Peterlee.
The 85-year-old victim was left shaken after disturbing a suspect who had allegedly smashed a kitchen window and searched several cupboards before making off on April 10.
Officers from Peterlee CID arrested and charged Tyler Ophield in connection with the incident on April 14.

The 19-year-old, of Glebe Avenue, Peterlee, appeared at Peterlee Magistrates’ Court yesterday morning (April 20) and pleaded not guilty to one charge of burglary.
Mr Ophield was released by magistrates on bail with conditions including an electronic curfew from 1pm to 9am.
He is next due to appear at Durham Crown Court on May 13.
