A MAN has been released on bail after an incident on a North East beach which left two people in hospital.
Emergency services were called to Saltburn beach on Monday evening after a number of people were injured by a car at around 8.17pm.
Officers received reports that pedestrians on and near to the beach had been injured when a blue Audi had left the road and gone onto the beach, near to the Pier.
A motorist was later rescued from a car stranded out at sea.
Cleveland Police have told of a “large number” of calls from the public after it appealed for witnesses and footage of the incident.

Two women remain at James Cook University Hospital whilst receiving treatment for serious leg injuries.
Two people received minor injuries and did not need medical treatment at the scene.
A man in his 70s was arrested and released on police bail in connection with the incident.
Detective Sergeant Lorna Atkinson said: “We would like to thank everyone who has responded to our appeal for witnesses and footage. We have received a large number of calls into our control room from members of the public; please be reassured that we are in the process of contacting those people who we need to speak to.
“We have also received footage which may assist our investigation as officers work to determine the circumstances of this incident.
“Two women remain in hospital at this time whilst receiving treatment and one man has been released on police bail whilst our enquiries continue.”
