THE nation has again been gripped by the ITV dramatisation of the infamous "canoe man" John Darwin and his brazen insurance scam - and there are more episodes on the way.

The Thief, His Wife and The Canoe first aired on Sunday night (April 17) to much anticipation with Eddie Marsan and Monica Dolan acting as the main stars of the gritty series.

Set in Seaton Carew, Hartlepool, the four-parter looks at the rise and spectacular fall of Darwin and wife, Anne as they try to pull off a major insurance scam by faking the death of John.

But when is it next on-air?

The first episode aired on Sunday night and is subsequently airing on ITV for the next few days, instead of once per week.

The show has aired every night since then and the remaining two episodes are set to air on Tuesday, April 19 and Wednesday, April 20 at the same timeslot of 9pm.

However, you can actually watch the episodes before they air on national TV as bosses have taken uploaded the entire series on its 'Hub' player.

Episodes one to four are now available to watch on the ITV Hub and are all around 60 minutes in length.

This is fairly unusual as ITV, like other broadcasters, often stagger the release of episodes as part of a series until they have been broadcast.

This is something ITV Vera fans know very well as they are still waiting for two more episodes from series 11, which was first filmed in 2020 and 2021.

What to expect from each episode

ITV has released a short description of what viewers can expect as the story takes its twists and turns.

Facing bankruptcy, John Darwin decides to fake his own death using his canoe, much to the horror of his wife, Anne. John goes into hiding while Anne consoles her sons.

John successfully applies for a passport to create a new identity, while forcing Anne to demand an inquest into his death so they can get the insurance pay out.

Episode 3 - view here

John has had enough of being dead and returns to England to declare he is suffering from amnesia. Journalists hunt down Anne in Panama and their story starts to unravel.

The truth emerges when Anne and John are interviewed by the police. The case goes to trial where Anne pleads not guilty on the grounds of marital coercion.
