THE North East was recently impressed by the arrival of a royal cruise ship, the Queen Victoria this week - and there's more to come.

The Port of Tyne routinely publishes a list of cruise ships that are due to arrive at its North Shields Cruise Ship Terminal.

From the sister ship to the ill-fated Costa Concordia, the Costa Fortuna to the mega german-cruise liner, the AIDASOL, there are scores of ships set to arrive this year.

They are all on a range of voyages, from the Baltic and Norweigan Fjords to tours of the British Isles, and are all calling North Shields home for the day.

The Port of Tyne has said that the list is subject to change, but it is understood all of the voyages listed are still scheduled.

The updated list comes as Cunard's Queen Victoria meandered the River Tyne earlier this week to scores of people on the riverbank.

Her arrival was among the first cruise liners to return to the North East after cruising was largely disrupted by the Covid pandemic.

Before the cruise ship boom, the Port of Tyne heavily relied on DFDS, FjordLine and cargo transport between the region and the rest of the globe.
