A SECTION of the Metrocentre was closed on Tuesday evening as emergency services responded to an incident.
Northumbria Police were called to the shopping centre at around 5pm after receiving a report of a concern for a woman.
It was reported she was on the wrong side of the railings in a section of the shopping centre.
A part of the shopping centres Blue Mall was closed while officers brought her to safety.
North East Ambulance Service dispatched an ambulance and a rapid response paramedic to the scene, but no medical assistance was required and they were stood down.
The Tyne & Wear Fire Service were also called to the incident.
A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: “Shortly after 5pm yesterday (Tuesday), police received a report of a concern for a female at the Metrocentre, Gateshead.
“It was reported that a female was on the wrong side of the railings in a section of the shopping centre.
“A section of the Blue Mall was closed while officers brought her to safety.”
