A CRASH on the A19 this afternoon near Thornaby has resulted in one person going to hospital.

Two lanes remain closed and there is queueing traffic due to crash. 

Two cars and a van were involved on the A19 Southbound from A1130 Levick Crescent (Mandale Interchange) to A174.

Lanes one and two (of three) are closed.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said: "A collision took place on the A19 southbound near to Thornaby at around 1:05pm today, involving a police van, a Citroen C3 and an Audi A4.

"The driver of the police vehicle has been taken to hospital with shoulder pain.

"One lane remains closed whilst recovery is arranged for the vehicles."

Shortly after 1pm, the North East Ambulance Service was called, however, a spokesperson said they were only called to be told they weren't required.
