A SECTION of the A1(M) in County Durham has reopened after a crash on Thursday morning.

The A1 southbound between Bowburn and Bradbury was fully closed at 9.30am this morning for vehicle recovery and barrier repairs after an earlier crash.

At around 4.30am this morning, a HGV travelling southbound partially left the carriageway blocking lane one within a section of roadworks.

The road was closed for around three and a half hours.

The Northern Echo:

There were severe delays on the A1(M) Southbound between J61 A688 Tursdale Road (Bowburn) and J60 A689 (Bradbury).

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for ice affecting the North East and North Yorkshire as snow starts hits the region today.

The forecaster has warned that some icy patches on untreated roads and pavements may lead to increased chances of accidents and injuries.

The warning is in place until 10am on Friday.
